Byzantine Church St. Nicolas Rangavas

Byzantine Church in Athens: St. Nicholas Rangavas

The original church was of cross-in-square type with dome, to which a side chapel (parekklesion) dedicated to St. pareskevi was added later. In recent times the building was extended tothe west, and the sanctuary apse and the facade have been distorted. In 1978, during conservation and restoration work on the church by the 1st Ephorate of Byzantine antiquities, archeologists revealed a wall of cloisonne masonryon the north side, that is the Byzantine wall.
