A very nice area, much of it with no roads, and untouristed (at least in the last few years), though not exceptional in either wildlife or scenery, this area has oak woodland and pasture, some small gorges and cliffs, as well as a pretty lake fringed with reeds along the main road to Albania.
Quite a few birds of prey are found here, some of them breeding here as well, smaller birds, and waterbirds by the lake, as well as amphibians, tortoises, at least twenty-five species of butterflies, flowering orchid, yellow iris and other plants.
This area can be reached via the E 90 road north from Ioannina, and is found at the point where the road branches off to the west to Albania, with roads into the aea from the villages of Yeroplatanos, Kefalovriso, and Meropi.
