We've had time to get our photos back and reflect on what a what a great trip to Greece we enjoyed! We figure this was due to two major factors:
1) we did our homework. We read a lot in guidebooks, both printed and web-based, and planned exactly where we wanted to go in the time we had. It wasn't easy, but with the huge amount of information available, especially the high-content stuff available on Harry's site, we mapped out a great itinerary that was that much more satisfying because it was our planning, and not some tour group's.
2) the great service we
got from Irene and Robert at Meridian, Greece's largest Hotel Provider, Travel. We corresponded via e-mail for a couple
of months as we made many changes in what we wanted to do, and Irene and Robert responded
very quickly every time, until we finalized all the cities and transfers we
needed. When we arrived at our first hotel in Greece, a packet was waiting for
us with vouchers
for every hotel, in-country flight, overnight tour (to Meteora, we didn't feel
like driving ourselves), rental car (for the Peloponnese, one of many fantastic
experiences), and ferry ride, plus a set of brochures and maps that were very
helpful. Every voucher worked flawlessly. Finally, when we already thought this
was a supremely memorable vacation, we ended up at Roccabella Villas in Santorini,
which Irene and Robert had booked for us, in one of the most fabulous vacation spots
we have ever been in. What an apartment, and what a view!
