Vias of Priene (near Miletus) - Pre-Socratic Philosophers and member of the 'Seven Sages' 6th C bc

here he isThis sage exercised his wisdom in the courts, where he was known for his eloquence and perfect discernment in legal cases..

He defended those whom he believed unjustly treated, charging no fee in these cases, and wept when he was forced to give the death sentence.

He died while speaking in court, at the age of 80, and a sancturary was dedicated to him. In one of his sayings he urges people to seek wisdom rather than other possessions during the entire course of life, since it lasts longer than anything else.
