History

This island has been conquered by just about everybody including Crusaders, Venetians, Egyptians and the Turk to whom it surrendered peacefully and was awarded special status. It was an Italian possession until 1948 and was bombed almost to the ground during WW II. Many of the islanders emigrated to Australia and over 10,000 of them live in Perth.

Day trips to Turkey are possible from Kastellorizo. You can get a boat to Kas, Turkey, along the waterfront.

If you go to the Blue Grotto, wear your swimsuit because you'll get wet and go in the morning when the light is best.

Transportation Facts	By Air: During summer there are 4 to 5 flights a week from Rhodes. Three a week the rest of the year. By Sea: One boat a week from Piraeus, Astypalea, Amorgos, Nisyros, Tilos, Symi 2 to 3 a week from Rhodes which has many more options.
