Directions for leaving Athens' Omonia Square

Traffic, leaving the center of Athens' Omonia Square will cause delays if you leave any other time than early AM (8:30 am).

From Omonia Sq. take one of two streets to get to the "Sacred Way" (known today, and since ancient times, as the "Iera Odos". Supplicants and initiates of the Eleusian Mysteries walked this path yearly, for centuries, to Eleusis, which you will pass (23km), if you take this route.) Odos means road or street in modern Greek and is pronounced "O-dhos") If you become lost anywhere in Greece and know the name of the road you want, say:

'Para-kalo, Pou ee-neh odos xxxxx?'

To the 'Iera Odos" from Omonia Square via

1.Tsaldari St./Pireos St. or 2. Aghios Constandinos St..

1. Omonia Sq. is a busy downtown square with 8 streets converging upon it. The square is being changed all aorund and has been for the last 2 years so its a bit hard to give exact directions but, if you can find Tsaldari St., go about 10 blocks on Tsaldari St. which will have changed name to Pireos St. almost immediately, and turn right into Iera Odos. Then just keep going.
