Mitropoleos Square Athens Plaka Area & The National Cathedral

Mitropoleos Square is on Mitropoleos Street which connects Syntagma Square with Monastiraki Square and then terminates. Ermou Street is parallel and continues to Keramicos and beyond. Mitropoleos St. is the northern border of the Plaka area. The nearest metros stations are Syntagma or Monastiraki.

In Mitropoleos Square is the National Cathedral and the small Byzantine Church called the small Mitropoleos or St. Freedom (Aghios Eleftherios) see below. This is one of the areas bigger squares and a bit more sedate than the hustle and bustle of the surrounding area. Its a good spot to meet friends with a few cafes on its inner fringe. Pandrosou Street fronts it on the Acropolis side and following it will bring you to Monastiraki Square and the flea market and the Library of Hadrian and Roman Agora.
