Leros is a smallish Dodecanese island just north of Kalymnos and Kos and south of Patmos. It is more lush than most of the group and has several nice beaches and many bays. There is an airport.
This island is underdeveloped and is used by the Greeks as a prison and a mental institution island. In Italian hands until 1947 the island has been occupied by many over the years most especially the Turks.
Lakki is the name of the main port which is an eclectic mix of neo classical and art deco architecture with at least three hotels and several taverns. There are several villages and an old castle.
