Well off the beaten track, Andros is 2nd largest of the Cyclades (after Naxos) and the northernmost Cycladic island which means it gets a lot of wind.
Only 2 hrs from Rafina port by ferry, Rafina is only an hour or two from downtown Athens by bus depending on traffic.
Andros is mostly popular with rich Greeks who have built many fine houses here due to its proximity to Athens.
Andros Town or Hora is a well kept secret and a beautiful town built on a promontory exposed to the sea. Not surprisingly it boasts marble side walks (in places) and neo-classical mansions. A rental car will enable you to enjoy the islands full potential and to access the several secluded beaches and small villages it offers. See guide to Greek Island Andros
